PRE-TOURNAMENT CHECKLIST
We all have busy lives. But it just might be worth it to dedicate 3 weeks out of the year to really focus on performing your absolute best in one big tournament. Let's say the Club Championship or whatever might be the big one for you this season.
Three weeks prior to the event make sure you are physically ready for competition. Stretching, aerobics for endurance, core training will all help both your strength and mental toughness.
Have your clubs checked for competition as well. (shaft flex, lie angle, new or well cleaned grips, and comfortable properly fitted golf shoes.)
Have in your bag Sunscreen, advil and any other medicines, band aids etc. that you may need out there.
Practice and play! Put pressure on yourself to mimic tournament conditions. Focus on the short game and "tee club" that will absolutely get you in the fairway when you need it! Consider a lesson if you're having doubts about your swing.
Get plenty of sleep the night before the tournament. Try to get to the course early to warm up and so not to feel rushed. Make sure you have 14 clubs in your bag! Have plenty of clearly marked balls. Confirm you starting time and check any local rules for the day. Note course conditions. Stay hydrated and have a snack during the round.
Remember, you are doing this because you enjoy the game and like the competition. Don't get yourself so stressed out that you can't play your game. If you notice the hot beer cart girl out of the corner of your eye while lining up your putt on number 3, you're probably sufficiently relaxed.
Now drop this bum you're playing like a bad habit!...and have fun out there!
